I have read a lot of reviews given out by people in this forum. The one common trend that I have noticed is that most of the folks have targeted Middle management and MATC in their rants. I have been with this company for 5 years now, and the only thing that I can say from my experience is that one cannot generalise a company just by looking at his/her's immediate superior.
Like all places, there are good people and bad people and I have had the opportunity to deal with both kinds (admittedly mostly the rogue ones), It is actually the upper management which leaves no choice for middle and upper-middle managers, as a result these managers get frustated and start behaving like asses .. cut them some slack, after all they're also human.. right ?? So in sum, it is the upper management who are the real asses here. The chandras, mahalingams and that HR guy (don't remember his name) are the real asses who make such policies.... true this is a capitalist soceity, but these people have taken this to the extreme... sometimes even worse off than american companies..
True, this company pays salary equivalent to peanuts, for example, in my batch, I was the only guy who joined TCS, and today after 5 years, my take home is almost half of what other people are making... So, no surprises, I too will be making a switch anytime now :)
Now as far as complaints regarding skillsets and allocations are concerned, well, my only answer is that this is a free world, if one feels that skill sets are being degraded or being under utilised, you are free to move out, no one's going to stop you (admittedly, in the present scenario, they don't care either)
However, the one good thing that I have noticed here is that people are great here, I have been lucky to have worked with the good ones so far..
HR and MATC are nothing more than a fugly piece of shit, those poor souls don't really know what they do all day long, ofcourse they don't understand the dfference between a mainframe and a as/400 or for that matter JD edwards on as/400 or JD edwards on oracle... they really need to be trained... I mean seriously, these people have done a hell of a lot of harm than good..
Work stress is really what you make it out to be.. if you want more work and more stress, they have all the work in the world for you to do.. :)
Im writing this review in a pretty ineberiated state of mind.. so it might seem generalistic.. but then isint it all upto one's own perception and opportunities ?

This is reply to Mr.Chandra's(CEO of TCS) comments on this site .
We (employees) are not much worried about work-pressure/Competency level or any other thing. As Indians, we always like TCS, & proud to work with it.But ~95% of the guys who leave TCS are demoralized only becaz of useless 'politics' . Let me explain my situation(which prevalent in TCS).. Truly I do better job than any other team members(including On-site guyz) and use to deliver my deliverables on/before time. I help my team mates to complete their job also. My manager also knows this.(Note: Most of the managers in TCS are not even aware of basic programming concepts, so they are able to understand some techie/brainy work) But when comes to recognition, it goes only to the guyz who just maintain very good relationship(for rating/on-site) with my manager. Day to day work life, these guys use to 'please' my manager personally. Really Guyz who very smart technically, are not smart enough to 'please' their manager. so, the techie guyz who contributed more to the project, will get frustrated, leave TCS. So, please accept/understand, (of-course u should be aware) that this 'useless and demoralizing' pleasing' politics is there in TCS. TCS is worst one in this case. Always 'Knowledge workers' suppressed by 'please'ers here. TELL ME WHAT SHOULD WE DO TO SEE GROWTH in TCS. Are you saying that we have to 'please' our managers.? we have to stay in the same level with no growth, if dont like to 'please'.? or we have to sacrifice our job in TCS and look for another company.?? Your responses are highly anticipated.....

Hello everyone. This is one more sufferer from TCS. I joined this company as a fresher with more hopes on work. I was put on some SAP project. The team it self has some fuckers in it. Worst corporate politics I had ever seen in my life. No training nothing on SAP. Straight away they had put on me on project and harassing that I am not working. They took me to some party saying that team spirit will improve. They took me to bar and restaurant. Fuckers..! No decorum at all. Bloody people..! In office they dont wish me hai and bye..! Worst people I had ever seen. Will learn some ABAP and move away from this company..! They are cheating the students on their brand name, taking them into company, putting on production support and all worst supports....! No work culture at all. spoiling the TATA's Brand name. Worst people..! If u want to hav good career, dont join this company...! Think b4 u act

The only place now a days being recognised for no growth potential for employees working on Operational level. Even a government job is prefered than TCS. Its a company recommended for emplyees with an exp. of more than 25 yrs and no potential left in them(an age to get retiered). Only to show case that TCS has got Expertise Emplyees working under thier brand name are considered and been assigned a good position with a handsome amount of money to Warm their place in TCS.

2)Chaploosi, Chaatu giri... is the qualities required for growth.
You will be rewarded with N number of certificates for your perfomance but when it comes to Salary there are limitations catergorised by TCS for different Bands.

RMG cant distinguish between J.D edwards and JAVA.both of the technologies are same for them as they are started with J.Same for any oracle products ,SAP Products.They need to be taught on these technologies.They force u 2 join any project and if u deny,then they would rape u in front of everyone.I have been raped for a month..

I was looking for a place to vent out my anger towrads the company and bang on i find this web page.
I asked for released from a project as i wanted to look for better options and life in a project but ended up in a similar proj again.After seeing posts by fellow sufferers, i feel it a common sight everywhere.There a wide feeling of discontent among the associates.
Have no other words other than saying that either the HR and top management is blind or had deliberately blind-folded themselves so that they could not see the plight of employees.
Nevertheless the company will have to pay the price.Am 1.5 yrs experienced and already looking for other jobs..

I decided to try them out and they started calling me at 6 AM in the morning or after 10 PM at night. This was more than enough for me to understand the kind of environment I will be getting into. Hence, I have decisded to ignore them as well.

This review is exclusively for freshers. I joined this company as a fresher from one of the top 5 colleges of tamil nadu. I am almost 3 years now. I am decided to switch. My advice for freshers joining this company, which I learned in my 3 years in TCS is the following. Obey you supervisor whatever he says. Never give any comment or question even if they tell anything wrong. Most of the superiors will be stupid. Talent or work is no way respected here and it will not be considered in rating or promotion as well. Love your job whatever you do. Learn from them. Dont work too much. There will no recognition for good work especially if you are a fresher as in college. Nobody cares for that mostly. There will be plenty of politics in work place to experience and learn. Be sure who will rate you. Your only goal in TCS is to please your supervisor who gives you rating propably your reviewer too. Treat your supervisor as your god. Many times they will take credit for your work. Dont get angry or show your face.This is a very common scenario in TCS. Horn your skills as much as possible. Hold your teeth for 3 years or until you go for first onsite. Look for better opportunities outside with a good hike and respect for talent.

A pretty negative blog about the company to say the least, i even saw a comment from the alledged CEO of the company pretty lame one at that though. Its not this bad really, but its pretty bad. The over all strategy of TCS is to let 3-6 year folks go out of the company eventually by reducing pay hikes for that cadre substantially and invest on freshers ( read cheap), this method has pit falls there are often cases where certain key skilled tallent( questionable at times) are hired at a 250% or more premium from the market instead of having home grown ones, not to speak of delivery quality dips due to inexperiences resources. This company is bound to fail since its top management seems to be shortsighted, inorganic growth, no gain sharing, high dividend rate ( TATA sons are the majority stake holders BTW), low employee acceptance rate, and most frustratingly the lottery of onsite positions as a means of making money. There is lots more to add in terms of pathetic service delivery model in HR from engagement to staffing, at times incompetant managers, high degree of internal difference in compensations and the worst of all very high rewards to top management and pittance for lower mgmt and junior employee grades.I would say to the TCS top mgmt reduce the numbers of hires and dont over rate growth, think a bit about your loyal employee base, you guys have to measure up cause the average tcs tech employee will the leave the company when the ship sinks you guys are the ones who would sink with it.

There are some MF who wrote some better things about this piece of shit company. I think these people who think this company is still worth working for should send their wives to all sad TCSers and get them f***, and then they can work for their so called d**k s***ing higher management 24*7. This company does not offer nothing to employees. Higher management has only Hijras. Half of the managers dont even have basic sense of communication, they speak as if they are just done giving a B**w j*b to their managers. HR and RMG are C**k S****rs with no B*lls. Policies are made by senior management while Jerking off in the early morning without thinking enough. Its a cattle class company and everyone should leave as soon as they get a chance.

From my personal excperience TCS is not at all good for freshers.
The most element in TCS is HR and RMG (resource management group).They both make you impotent to apply a job outside.If you are still want to join this company just remember one thing -- "The award for good work is more work and more defects which lead to bad rating".

Hi to all.And first i would like to give a message to those people who think that working in TCS is a govt. like job...BULLSHIT...This is worst than any private firm.I have been working for more than 2 yrs and for first year I worked all on weekends and i got nothing ..my onsite location is in India itself...so no abroad chances...my PL and teammates believe that I am very good at my work but still they treat me as nothing....just few days left ...i m going to quit...and the biggest ** are HR, MATC and the PL.So, guys if you have skills DO NOT show in this company,just make them feel that you are average....once you will prove that you are above all they will use and throw you....if you want a good carrier and you are a good student of CSE/IT (B.E.) having some of that engineering spirit left inside...DO NOT BE A TCSers.........

I am a fresher and i am in TCS for 6-7 months. Before joining I used to feel lucky to get recruited by this company(campus recruited). It was dream to get recruited by TCS but now its a nightmare to work here.Its feel it is my greatest mistake in life. My PL is horrible. The project is no better. They send me to onsite(Not UK, US but to some remote village in Haryana and UP to install S/W). Now i myself is in doubt that if i am an engineer or a salesman. If i ask for anything the only answer I get is "Do you want to be in this job or not". No I don't. I will leave this disgusting company ones i get another job. But how?? They make me work on weekends too(I am not able to apply in some other firm). And when i apply for leave she behave as if i am asking her for her savings. It has screwed my career. Screw TCS!!!

so far my experience has been good. One things that i feel can be improved is allocating people appropriately to projects based on the skill sets and the training imparted to them. This will enhance the productivity of the individual as well as the organisation. Sadly to say most of the TCSers are not allocated properly.. :(

(Contd..). I had gone out of review space for my previous post and this is a continuation of the same.
Given that 'fostering an environment of Learning and Sharing' is one of the worded values of the company, TCS has been and is known for it's training initiatives. Options to get yourselves into various training sessions are quite good. However project delivery priorities do play a big role in deciding the bandwidth for you to get into trainings that are good for your career but not essential for the project. Immediate supervisors do play a role in effecting the training plan of the team members. There are supervisors who take up good interest in the team member's career planning and there are those that don't. TCS has a framework for learning and career building, but again the translation and delivery of framework is upto the immediate supervisors !
MATC (now know as RMG) is the group that deals with the assignment of employees to projects. I don't have too many good things to say about this group though I don't have first hand 'bad' experiences with this group. Most commonly heard employee compliant is about how the RMG treats the employees and their apparent lack of respect towards the individual (which is again one of the worded core values of TCS). It's a surprise that I have come across some senior TCS employees who are not too enthusiastic to deal with RMG.
HR policies in general are adequate, though complaints about transparency and promotion policies are commonplace. Appraisal process and definition of 'desired behavior' still continues to be a challenge and highly dependent on immediate supervisor's people capabilities - however isn't this how it is in all companies!
TAS (Tata Administrative Services) is an excellent opportunity available only to TATA employees. The programs aims to identify and groom young talented employees towards taking up leadership/management positions in TATA flagship companies. Not many freshers know about this.
TCS is a company with global presence and services a range of industry verticals & technology horizontals. Given the size and reach of the company, there are good options to travel to any geography and work in any chosen domain/technology. However a lot depends on how you position yourself and your strengths, how you 'sell' yourselves within the company, and how you deal with your internal stakeholders. I think this is true for any company. Please refer to my previous post for ratings.

I inadvertently stumbled on this site and am quite surprised to see so much of negative and unbalanced feedback on TCS - but then, happiness doesn't really seek web forums to vent (unless you have nothing better to do on a Sunday evening :)) . I have been with the company for 10 years and had my share of experiences to give a credible feedback. In summary, I like TCS as a company and I like the general policies/direction. However like in any other company there is a big area of improvement in how the company is being translated to it's employees via the interfaces (middle management, HR, MATC etc) that employees deal with regularly.
In any company the immediate supervisor plays an important role in effecting the way his/her team perceives the company. I've come across role models and also team member's nightmares in equal measure. I guess it would be your calling on who you'd come across - but in a long term it all evens out and will definitely add a dimension to your perspective of how teams should be lead. So I feel that good and bad managers are equally responsible in shaping you up - too much of one variety is not good for your learning :) That way TCS is quite a learning ground ! I liked some experiences and some not so much - but definitely I came out wiser, skilled and stronger.
The recent recession lead to a strew of cost cutting measures and right sizing initiatives (read 'layoffs') from almost all companies and TCS was not to be left out. Now again TCS is leading from the front in recruitment. My take is that these things are unavoidable given the need to be competitive. There is no right way of handling such situations and collateral damage is inevitable. Also due to the reorganization of the company to ISUs (Industry specific solution units that are accountable for profit and loss and operate like mini companies within TCS), cost is playing a bigger role in the employees life than before.
My perception is that the experienced professionals getting laterally recruited command higher salaries and designations than the home grown employees who have started their careers with TCS. But again, you might say that it is common sense and happens in any company. However I wish the rules of this game will change and leaving the company just to play by the rules is not such a great option.
TCS has some great office spaces - though there are a few that are employees nightmares (read 'Kohinoor Park' which is a fire disaster waiting to happen) (Contd..)

My exp is like hell in TCS, i resigned from TCs at off-shore in gurgaon branch . i am Server admiistration guy. i was stopped by delhi It head of TCS to stay and given on site .
i refused the very good company offer(CSC with good package) just on IT head promise.
I have been sent to onsite in UK and things start happening with me. they kept me in EUC team , doing image roll-out , moving desktop from one desk to another.
I just feel like TCS my life bad company. i am deciding to resign from TCS .
Does any one know what are the TCS policy of resignation at onsite or from off-shore after onsite return.
i have already asked my IT head to call me back to india ASAP.
TCS 10 th class company to work..they will start killing ur skills so that you cant go anywhere and qualify for job.

If you think a person who hates a company should leave then you are very narrow and stupid. It shows your lack of intelligence and lack of power to understand other people. What is important is not to ask haters to leave but to find the reason why they hate the company. Hear them out and see if there is any truth to what they say. Anyway, "leave", "go", "come" is the normal attitude of PLs/GLs/MATC. So I guess there is a high chance that anyone who is saying these things falls in these categories.

Humar Rights Violation is happening in TCS
They will suck your blood like anything..Gross Human rights violation is happening..If you are in any production support project then be ready to work for 24 hours also which happened to me..I was in office for 25 hours one day and that Day I mailed all the high level people to inform them about this HR violation...But these ** didn't responded..Even after doing 2 months of night shift these ** didn;t approved the night shift allowance...In TCS nobody will listen to your problem or complain..Because of these ** I was hospitalised as for one month they asked me to work for 7 days a week..with around 15-16 hours a day...After repeated complain when nothing happened..I simply stopped comming to office and finally when I was reluctant to come to office they released me from the project...Here Manager/PLs think themselves as Owner of the company...These **** will not give a damn even if you die taking stress...TCS is like a third grade Govt. company..Except various learing programs there is nothing good in this company...Just only to earn bread and butter one should join TCS ..

No one is expecting these folks to be with us. Go head,resign and prove yourself. It is a open market economy and under the great leadership of Dr.Manmohan singh and our great chairman's Mr.Ratan Tata's direction TCS is pursuing the policies of captialism where people are piece of shit and dispensable. We TCS are in the business of making money, we would do anything to be profiteers.It is through us, Indian software labours go abroad, get money, see western world but then they don't go come back to India or come back keep gribbing. First think i lost my life after joining tcs. Leave about pay and increments.This company cannot provide a decent working enviroment.There is no ac after 5 pm. So people working after need to work under horrible conditions.Now these ** will say why are you working after 5 pm . ifwe need to share a pc among 2 people how will i not work after 5 pm . Such is the working enviroment.If its false ask anyone from rtsc .I once asked if i can work from home as i have ac and pc in my home they said its security violation .

Hi Every body saying their views regarding TCS Retainers.But as a retaner my exp is in TCS Retainers are like MUSAPHIRS simply the life of retainer in TCS in like MOSAPHIR.
Just TCS wants work from Retainers no matter what we did for that retainer they wont think.
No Employee will do work in office only retainers need to do work.Even the retainer health is not good then also they need to come to office PL wont agree for his/her leave.But employees can take 5-10 days leave for thier brother /sister/parents/Friends mariage day
(marrige anniversary not the marriage).So any company that recruting retainers from TCS will surely get the new good resource.

Me: See boss, these things are going to take time. Even if I work 18 hours it cant be completed.
"What are you doing in weekends? Come to office, there will be lot of peace. No one to disturb you. Your productivity will go high and you can finish this job by monday".
Me: No I can't come on weekends. I need time for myself and have lots of household work remaining.
Later on the 1st level god complained to the 2nd level god. (Yeah bosses are gods in this fu**ing sh**hole)
3)I had a problem in the design. We need to put 3 java objects in an array and later take them out. Now there are two ways I believe (anyway I was working with 0 training so I could be wrong) :
i)put 3 objects in a particular order in the ArrayList and later take them out in the same order. This would need to be written down somewhere because the order is not mentioned in the design. Besides I'm not sure whether it is good coding practice to have dependency on the order like this.
ii)put the objects in any order and identify each object after taking it out by using some loops. The problem with this is that it will consume more cycles.
So I went to ask the team lead which way is correct.
Me:
Team lead: One minute wat ru saying?
Me:
TL:wat data is in the obj? (totally off topic)
Me:
TL:why is this data here?
Me:
TL:Im not understanding
Me:
TL:Why is this data like this. show me the code.
(he was the one who had reviewed the design)
After 1 hour of discussion and fed up with his stupidity I decide to take the first method to make my life easy.

This is asshole company where all Project Managers and PL's suck your blood they get work done from you and get credits for themselves and if u dont lick their feet they will give you 2 rating even if you have earned lot of client appreciations.Goal Setting will be done in the end no time to achieve goals even if u achive them then they will try to force u accept 2 rating they bastards.After using you completely HR's force you to leave the company and say voluntarily leave.There is no job security..Anhra people are biased and promote only andhrates..TCS manages instead of positive motivation sends Team members under depression.Managers are always biased you should have great links in tcs to survive or else you should be a great spoon of your supervisor.There is no transparency in aprraisal and firing jobs system in this bladdy cheap TCS company.I hate this company state biasing is a great isue over here....BASTARD TCS uses people like tissue papers and throws out whnever they want.....BASTARDS.....

the basic problem with this company is that, they have too many resourses, especially <3 yrs experience and hence they are treating people as disposable assets. 'take the d*ck in ur a** or else leave' attitude. And to make sure that people remain a disposable asset, they make sure that u know nothing, never allow u to specialise or master any one technology. Most probly, ull end up in a production support proj where u learn nothing technically, end up working in obsolete technology that has no scope anywhere else if u plan to leave the company. if ever u plan to leave the company, u know nothin worthwhile enough to command a decent salary outside. ppl become dependent on the company. as long as tcs employs them only thell be having a job. tcs takes advantage of this and asks u to work more if else.... u know.
no ethics here. manager always after beautiful gals, always droooling after them. cute gals get good apprisals and end up going onsite. u guis, u need to su*k ur manager's a**, di*k, and whatever else he has to get a decent rating.
worst company if u r a fresher. ull be wasted here. ull lose all ur knowledge, thinkin power, and some times, even ur di*k over rating. ull be put in prod support, asked to come in odd timings to a office at siruseri (50 kms from chn) without any good transport. theve even increased the bus feees to 2.5k p m..... who asked them to have a campus 50 km from city?
do not dream of onsite if u r a gui and do not wan to lick ur managers di*k.
too much politics. only thing ull learn is how to survive bad leads and managers. ya, u can survive anywhere, even among talibans if u can manage it here in tcs.
very bad company if u want to learn and grow in ur career.
and the fresher 2 ys bond becomes a 3 yr bond as u get called only after 10 -12 months after graduating.

They have very few development projects. Lots of projects are support and maintenance.
No transfer, highly biased against other state people. Promotions are almost myth.
You can get your transfer only if u have some high influence contacts inside TCS.
For freshers stay for maximum 2yrs not more than that, cause it takes up to 3 yrs with continuous ratings of 4( very difficult).

Worked for TCS for 3 years in a non-tech, client role onsite
- No changes for carreer growth (only in case you're from TN)
- No carreer counseling, no personal goal setting, no growth path.. no-nothing
- Training... find you're own way..
- Support is spread out so tine... you pretty much on your own
- Sr. Management is very, very negative in its approach to people that work 60 hours a week for them...
- Global.. my ass.. you cannot pretend you understand local clients by running the entire show from India
- Team work: nope, you're on your own...
Just dont think about starting you're carreer here... your just a number, and in the end of the day.. it doesn't matter how hard you worked and slaved yourself.. very opportunistic.. espcially now the economic shit has hit the fan

This was the most frustrating time of life,the a'holes in tcs suck the life out of u and f**k all the chances ,u can make to get out...The more u stay there ,the more ur mind gets rusted,and the value is deteriorated.
The most difficult thing in TCS is try 2 get out of this f***ing place..
The a'holes have recruited B.Sc's and based on their licking powers ,they are made teamleaders over engineers..F*** them ..I resigned as soon as it happened with me..Now I am in a world Renowned company and am getting paid even more than the senior executives in TCS.BUt I f***ed my brains out to get out of this job..
The 5 yr plus ex guys are the dumbest creatures u will find on this planet.They pay u peanuts and slog u for 15 hrs a day, trying 2 convince u that company is in loss and the billing is not thr,..
This company is best 4 good looking gals,because every one in the company cares 4 u..u obviously know y.
Job secure bcos they have put 2 much of efforts in finding these idiots and also these idiots won't b hired by anyone in this world.
